External lightning protection – reliable protection against lightning strikes

Lightning and surge voltages endanger people and assets. Lightning strikes around two million times a year in Germany alone. Lightning protection systems offer reliable protection. They consist of both external and internal lightning protection measures and protect people from injury, structures from damage and electrical equipment from failure due to surge voltages. External lightning protection includes air-termination systems, surge protective devices, earthing and insulated lightning protection, which ensure that the separation distance is maintained. The task of the external lightning protection system is to reliably intercept direct strikes, discharging the lightning current to earth and distributing it into the ground. Air-termination systems are part of a lightning protection system that protects the construction system from direct lightning strikes with a current value of up to 200,000 A (lightning protection Class 1).

isCon®, isFang and many more solutions

This includes, for example, the high-voltage-resistant, insulated isCon® conductor – the modern solution for planners and installers of lightning protection systems, in order to maintain the necessary separation distances safely according to VDE 0185-305-3. The OBO portfolio also offers the insulated isFang air-termination rod and additional air-termination systems and air-termination rods. Conductor materials such as round and flat conductors, connection clamps and connection terminals, connection and separating terminals, protection and spark gaps as well as lightning current meters are just a few more OBO solutions from the area of lightning protection.
