In the Museo della Pietà in Milan, OKA trunking from OBO provide a discreet and flexible power supply around Michelangelo's last masterpiece.

The "Pietà Rondanini" is the last work by Michelangelo, which was left unfinished. The 89-year-old master worked on the sculpture, which depicts Jesus and Mary, just a few days before his death in February 1564.

For the last 60 years, the famous sculpture had been exhibited at the Museum of Ancient Art at Castello Sforzesco in Milan. Now, it has moved to the newly created Museo della Pietà in the "Spanish Hospital" of the "Castello". The hospital was built at the end of the 16th century, at the time of Michelangelo. Its frescos and decorations from this period have remained almost untouched to this day. The new museum is dedicated solely to Michelangelo's last masterpiece. The exhibition rooms were designed by the well-known designer and architect Michele De Lucchi and offer a perfect showcase for the "Pietà".

General building information

The open, screed-flush OKB trunking system with brush bar is suitable for cable routing and the protected installation of accessories in floors. In the new Museo della Pietà, the trunking is routed along the walls. A brush bar closes the cable exit opening, which runs along the entire length of the trunking system. To allow power access further into the room, i.e. nearer to the sculpture, the compact UDHOME floor sockets were used in the parquet floor. Their stainless steel parts visible in the floor covering blend discreetly into the surroundings. The cable infeed of the sockets was implemented simply with flexible pipelines.

Why did the customer choose OBO products?

This meant that it was possible to install the underfloor sockets at any location in the floor and, from there, to connect them with the trunking systems along the walls. In this combination, the OBO products were able to fulfil all the requirements for the planning and design of the historic space. Thus, the museum can now offer its visitors an unimpeded view of Pietà Rondanini.
